Set up Companion

Choose the download for the computer where you use Chrome.

  1. Download and install

    Open the .pkg file and follow the installer.

    Extract the ZIP, then open Install Readlet Companion.cmd inside.

    Preview · Windows x64. The installer is unsigned, so Windows may show a security warning.

  2. Return to your PDF

    Open Readlet AI in your Chrome tab. Choose Sign in with ChatGPT and finish signing in through your browser.

    Already signed in? You can continue your conversation.

Companion lets the Chrome extension connect to your ChatGPT account. Reading your PDFs never depends on it.

What is shared with ChatGPT?

When you ask for help, Readlet sends your question and the context needed to answer it to OpenAI using your connected account. That can include document text, page images, notes, and recent conversation. These requests do not pass through Readlet-owned servers.

Installing Companion does not upload your PDFs. Your documents and saved work stay on your computer.

Why does Chrome need Companion?

Chrome keeps extensions separate from software on your computer. Companion provides the connection Readlet needs to use your ChatGPT account. Readlet for Mac and Windows includes this connection already.

Installed it, but still can’t connect?

Make sure you’ve finished the installer on the same computer where you use Chrome. Return to your PDF and reopen Readlet AI. If it still asks for Companion, restart Chrome and try again.

If that doesn’t help, open Readlet’s Settings → Diagnostics to download a diagnostic log, then contact us.

Will I need to update Companion?

Most changes arrive with the Readlet extension. If Companion itself needs an update, Readlet will let you know. Download the new installer and run it again.

Can I keep reading without it?

Yes. Companion is only needed for ChatGPT in the Chrome extension. You can keep reading, searching, taking notes, and using your other PDF tools without it. You can also remove it later.
